Artist's Comments

The imagery in this piece is derived from spending most of my free time in a tattoo shop, surrounded by panels upon panels of flash, cap-fulls of luscious ink, and the melodic buzz of running machines. It is also equally inspired by Dia de los Muertos artwork and the strangely arcane icons from cards of La Loteria which I encountered in Mexico.

Media: Prismacolor colored pencils, ballpoint pen, watercolor, acrylic, sumi ink
Size: 2.5" by 3.5"

she has a very deer-like face, with the eyes so wide and dark. i like the red thorn vines/veins back there.

It was intended to be reminiscent of the dividing spaces between teeth in stylized representations of skulls, but stitching works too!

She does have very dark eyes, but there are also dark shapes painted around them too. Her face was intended to be skull-like (hence the darkness around the sockets, nose, etc.) but I'm not sure if that came across as clearly as I'd like :(

Right yeah! You got it perfect! Great job!I could tell thats what you were aiming for, and you got it really good! It adds a texture to the spaces in between the skulls teeth!

i like her face, but her nose is kind of flat and has a high arch to it, and the eyes are pretty wide, it just lends a sort of anthropomorphic trait to her face. i like the makeup she's wearing, and it does suggest a skull shape, but she seems kind of alien or fae, perhaps. it's not a bad thing, certainly! she's very interesting!

I do agree: she has very strange features, but then again I like to depict beings with strange features :D I certainly don't mind if she appears fae!
