This item was a project for an Advanced Graphic Design class during my junior year of college. The assignment was to conceive and design a piece relating to either comfort food or bathroom etiquette. I chose bathroom etiquette
My project is entitled Thank the Gods for Indoor Plumbing: A Divine Guide to Bathroom Etiquette, and it is essentially a spoof of classical (i.e. Greek and Roman) mythology. The imagery was inspired by ancient Greek vase paintings. It is extremely tongue-in-cheek, and as one might expect of a manual of restroom etiquette, it does contains its fair share of potty humor, but it's still somewhat educational.
The piece takes the form of a scroll that is the very same dimensions as an actual roll of toilet paper, which is to say that it is approximately 4.5" in height. The scroll is attached to an actual toilet paper cardboard core as well. The scroll is composed of a series of connected 4 by 4.5 inch "squares," and like actual toilet paper squares, they are individually perforated for easy tearing.
On the left, you can see the closed scroll with the accompanying belly band which secures it in place. When you slide the belly band off in order to read the scroll, you see the image on the right.
